Introduction
Just about everywhere you look the solution for greenhouse gasses and in general climate change is reducing the worlds emissions. But that is wrong. With 255,750,000,000,000 tons of greenhouse gasses (GHG) already in the atmosphere, reduction won’t stop climate change. So what will?
Background Information
Studies conducted by the UN, EU, NASA, and many more credited organizations have all agreed on one thing, if the temperature of the Earth increases by another 1.5-2 degrees celsius or more before the end of the 21st century, then the world would heat uncontrollably until it becomes entirely uninhabitable. This point is known in the scientific community as the point of no return. Where all natural processes begin to fail, and nature’s ways of dealing with temperature increase become overwhelmed. Once these systems fail then Earth will heat up even more rapidly until this planet becomes an inhospitable desert devoid of all life.
GHG Reduction
Based on most recent studies, even if the world were to stop emitting all greenhouse gasses tomorrow there is still a 42 % likelihood that the Earth would hit the point of no return. But stopping all emissions tomorrow is impossible, it will take years if not more to get the world’s emissions to 0. So without the removal of GHGs from the atmosphere, the point of no return seems inevitable.
Greenhouse Gas Removal
The most promising way to truly stop climate change is greenhouse gas removal. By directly removing the GHGs in the air we the total amount of GHGs in the atmosphere instead of just reducing the number of GHGs that the world emits. Greenhouse gas removal is possible through a variety of ways, from direct air capture to carbon dioxide absorbing concrete and fertilizer. Greenhouse gas removal is more effective because it can reduce the net emissions of the world while also removing preexisting greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. Which is far more effective than just reducing emissions as it does nothing to address already present greenhouse gasses. Which on its own can push the world to the point of no return.
Conclusion
Greenhouse gas removal is vastly more effective than reducing emissions. But due to advertising campaigns, the large majority of the population thinks that reducing greenhouse gas emissions is the way to solve climate change, yet reducing emissions won’t even come close to solving the problem. So the purpose of this blog has been to inform people of the truth about our world’s environmental issues. With this being one of the largest environmental issues on the planet, I hope that you have been informed on the true solution to climate change and perhaps will spread the truth to those around you to increase your understanding of this pressing problem.
